    ANTI-BULLYING WEEK 13th – 17th NOVEMBER 2023

    Dear Parents,

    Soon, it is National Anti-Bullying Week and, as usual, the school will be joining in with a packed programme of activities. The theme for this year is ‘MAKE A NOISE ABOUT BULLYING’  and this will form the basis of our work. The children will be involved in a range of activities in class to understand what bullying is and what they can do about it.

    Too often, we are silent when we see bullying take place, silent about the hurt bullying causes, and silent when we hear bullying dismissed as ‘just banter’. Together, we can make a difference and take a stand against bullying. From the playground to Parliament, and from our phones to our homes, let’s make a noise about bullying. It doesn't have to be this way. Of course, we won’t like everyone, and we don’t always agree, but we can choose respect and unity. This Anti-Bullying Week let’s come together to have discussions about what bullying means to us, how banter can turn into something more hurtful, and what we can do to stop bullying.

     Monday 13th NOVEMBER is ODD SOCKS DAY. This is a day in which we will celebrate the fact that we are all unique and it is good to be yourself. We would like the children to wear their usual school uniform but with odd socks.

    Wednesday 15th November is Make a Noise about Bullying Day. This is the day when children will :

    • Explore the many ways in which bullying can happen and how we can ‘Make A Noise’ in order to stop it,
    • Recognise the difference between ‘banter’ and ‘bullying’
    • Understand the group behaviours in bullying
    • Share ideas with peers that contribute towards the school’s anti-bullying strategy (in the form of a class poem/song-based around this year’s call to action)
    •

    CHILDREN IN NEED Friday 17th November   We will be ending Anti-Bullying Week by raising money for Children in Need. Children in Need fund thousands of charities and projects in every corner of the UK, that support children and young people to feel and be safer, have improved mental health and wellbeing, form better, more positive relationships and be given more equal opportunities to flourish.

    We are all keenly aware that the cost of living crisis is a point of concern and stress for us all. The plain fact is, that when times are bad, worthy charities need our help even more. Our community have always responded with great dedication, generosity, and a genuine sense of sacrifice and for this we thank you.

    On Friday the children will be taking part in an afternoon of activities and lessons all based around Children in Need. They will learn about the charity, the types of projects it funds and the children it helps. They will also be discussing the importance of friendships when facing challenges, and in helping us to achieve our potential. They will also be reflecting on the areas of their life for which they feel thankful. The children will be encouraged to consider the importance of showing thanks and to think about ways to show gratitude and gratefulness.

    It would not be CHILDREN IN NEED without some fun too! So the children will also participate in some art, craft and cookery activities during the afternoon.

    TO HELP US RAISE FUNDS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, PLEASE;

    • Come to school on Friday 18th November wearing SPOTS!
    • Donate to Children in Need on our ParentPay system or bring in a donation on the day

    Yours Sincerely

    Mrs Lara Marsh
