Nurture, Inspire, Flourish
INTENT
At Rose Lane Primary School, the intent of our PSHE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and enables children to become independent, confident, healthy and responsible members of society. Our curriculum teaches children about their rights and responsibilities and to appreciate what it means to be a member of a dynamic, diverse and every-changing society. We aim to provide learning opportunities that equip children with a knowledge of their world and give them confidence to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up within it. By encouraging children to play a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community, our students maintain positive, respectful and healthy relationships, within which they can thrive personally and socially. Weaving through the heart of our PSHE teaching, is a commitment to promoting our core values; Responsible, Integrity, Playful, Respectful, Inquiring, Ambitious, Resilient and Independent.
IMPLEMENTATION
PSHE is taught through a clear and comprehensive scheme of work in line with the National Curriculum. We ensure we cover the Health and Well-Being, Relationships and Living in the Wider World learning opportunities set out in the PSHE Association’s Programme of Study, which comprehensively cover the statutory Health Education and Relationships Education guidance. There is a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health. it is also important that our children understand the full diversity of the world they live in and be prepared for life in modern Britain. In addition to Relationships Education, we also teach aspects of Sex Education that form part of the statutory Science Curriculum. PSHE and RSE is taught through question- based half termly themes and links to British Values, SMSC and, is taught in such a way as to reflect the overall aims, values, and ethos of the school. PSHE is an integral part of the whole school curriculum, and is therefore often taught within another subject area. We offer many opportunities that complement our PSHE curriculum such as the anti- bullying week, Mental Health awareness days, the Ben Kinsella exhibition and the Junior Citizens trip.
